North Devon and Beyond... North Devon boasts some of the most beautiful and wild landscapes to be found in the South West. And Sea Valley Holiday Chalets, is located right in the heart of this amazing and dramatic landscape. North Cornwall and North Devon has managed to create a delicate balance between heritage and history and the modern lifestyle its visitors want. This can be seen by visiting "Barnstaple", a bustling market town at the end of "Exmoor" and the beginning of the "Braunton Burrows", an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). To the west, you a stone throw from "Tintagel and Boscastle". Then its the beautiful surfing paradise of Bude and its golden beaches and fantastic waves. Keep going and you get to Newquay and Padstow renowned for its amazing Cornish Restaurants serving local delicacies. Go south for the day and you hit "Dartmoor". Full of fantastic and challenging walks, National Trust castles, Churches and the odd Dartmoor Pony. Then your ready for the shops! Plymouth is one of the most beautiful and historical cities in the country. The shopping centre has been rebuilt completely since the war and has every shop you can think of. Park the car and take a walk to The Hoe or just head down to the Barbican and enjoy a Captain Jaspers Burger... legendary in those parts. Exeter is just up the A381, and is another fantastic day out in South Devon. More shops than you can count and many, many cafes and street bistros. The stunning Exeter Cathedral dominates the skyline and is a must for any history buff as is the narrow 16th century lanes and peculiar shops. Half way down the A38, swing a right to Torbay and Totnes. Towns totally dedicated to the “art of enjoyment” and relaxing. Torbay, encompasses Torquay and Paignton, stunning old fashioned holiday resorts from yesteryear. There is even still a pier! Totnes has the most beautiful riverside pubs and the high street compels the visitor to stroll and wander through nick nack shops and bizarre. Heading North from Sea Valley and your looking towards rugged coastlines and the Atlantic Highway. Cliff top views looking out towards Lundy and its famous Puffin colony. Turn right and your right on top of "Clovelly" and the stunning cobbled lanes descending at impossible inclines towards the harbour. If your a fan of this then a must would be a visit to Lynton and Lynmouth as well and then along to Porlock and its infamous hill! Bideford, "Great Torrington" and Braunton are places that are a must to drop by. Or if your an activity enthusiast, visit many of our local bike hire centres and enjoy the Tarka Trail, miles and miles of cycle path passing through idyllic scenery and skirting hidden beaches. These paths are great for the jogger and there are many running clubs that dont mind the odd visitor to flat foot the lanes and paths of North Devon and Cornwall. Fore! Yes you've guessed it, so many golf clubs dot our glorious countryside. From the absolute pro to the beginner, there is a club to suit. Is that to strenuous for you? Then there’s lots of good food to be had and more importantly good pubs. Hidden pubs, famous pubs, pubs by rivers, pubs on cliffs and the good old village pub with its characters. Did you know, Phil Vickery MBE the rugby player was born in Barnstaple? Peter Sellers first stepped on to a stage in sunny "Ilfracombe" and Joan and Jackie Collins both went to a school in North Devon whilst evacuated from the Blitz. A little older, Sir Francis Chichester was born in Barnstaple, Charles Kinglsey, author of The Water babies was born and raised in Bideford. Later he published the novel "Westward Ho!". This book was the inspiration behind naming the village of Westward Ho! which incidentally is the only place in the UK which contain an ! in its name. And finally Henry Williamson who moved to Georgeham near "Croyde" in 1921 and published "Tarka the Otter".
